Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol
70 years of Service

On the 27 March 2007 the Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol celebrates 70 years outstanding service to the Australian Community.

The Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol is a volunteer emergency service organisation,  which has an unsurpassed record in Australian community service.

Over 18,970 mariners would not be alive today, had it not been for the men and women of the Coastal Patrol, who in many cases have risked their own lives to perform these dangerous rescues.

In the 70 years the Coastal Patrol units have been operating, we have performed;

  • Rescue missions                      80,532
  • Assisted persons                      271,012
  • Radio calls                               25,088,000
  • Steamed                                  1,986,088 nautical miles
  • Assisted vessels valued at         $3,446,000,000
  • Donated in free labour                41,304,000 hr
  • Duty hours $ valued at               $826,080,000 (at $20 per hour)
  • Educated/ trained                      35,126 persons
  • Logged on day trips                   360,000
  • Offshore tracking trips                41,744
  • Hours spent fundraising              2,590,000
  • Hours administration                  5,810,000

We are very proud of the contribution we have made to Australia and the Australian way of life.
