Silence Periods

To help increase the safety of life at sea and ensure that emergency calls may be heard without interference from other radio traffic, two 3-minute Silence Periods should be observed every hour. These begin on the hour and finish at 3 minutes past, and again on the half-hour finishing at 33 minutes past the hour.
