RVCP Statistics 2008

To honour its commitment to SOLAS, the RVCP maintains 25 bases in coastal NSW, between Cape Byron and Eden and 35 lifeboats.  These are staffed by some 1,400 volunteers whose activities in addition to Search and Rescue, include radio watch, safety watch over vessels making passage along the coast, regular weather broadcasts from the Bureau or Meteorology, safety coverage of vessels on day trips, maritime education courses for RVCP Members and the general public, and provision of crewed lifeboats to assist the authorities at a variety of events, such as Sydney Harbour Control on gala days including the start of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, New Years Eve Fireworks and Australia Day and special events in other areas such as the Bridge to Bridge
